Wednesday September 25 - Sunday October 6 (Okemos and on to Port Orchard)

Wednesday was another another quiet day. I did do my final washing and also packed quite a few things.

On Thursday, we went to see Downton Abbey, the movie. I really enjoyed it and it made me wish I had watched the series. Maggie Smith was just awesome and there was some lovely humour all the way through. The movie reflects the time when the ancestral stately homes of Britain were beginning to cost too much to run and many of the families, who had lived in them for generations were being forced to sell them!

We sat in the comfortable reclining seats and we had an early dinner as they also served food and drinks for those who wanted some. The menu was excellent as was the food! I wanted to thank Barb and Rick for a lovely afternoon.

On Friday, I sorted some gear out and just about finished my packing. I really enjoyed Fluffy’s company, she is such a great cat, loves snuggles and purrs a lot, but on her terms, lol. I also went to visit the downstairs cats to say farewell!

I saw my first deer as it crossed the garden in the early evening. There was an extended thunderstorm that started in the late afternoon and carried on into the night, lightning lit up the outside like daylight.

Saturday
I woke up before the alarm and checked the train, it was on time. I made my farewells to Fuggly and Fluffy before we headed out. We arrived at the station in plenty of time to find........the train was 40 minutes late, lol!

I want to thank Barb and Rick for putting up with me and for waiting patiently for the train! I am just so sorry that the bug I brought with me, that I so kindly passed to Barb, meant she could not go,to her mum’s 100th birthday party, my reason for coming! I feel bad about that but life happens sometimes!

I had booked Business so there was plenty of room and free hot drinks. The attendant was excellent and delivered my tea and a muffin, not free, for breakfast.

The train was one and a quarter hours late in Chicago, In spite of being left for 40 minutes waiting for a redcap(thanks to one of the train conductors), I did manage to get to the Metropolitan Lounge to leave my luggage while I found a coffee and an almond croissant!
The lady in chage was so pleasant and helpful!

I managed to get my luggage and myself up to the main entrance and did not have to wait long for the shuttle. I was dropped off at T5 arrivals where the hotel shuttle picked me up.

I found a frozen dinner in the hotel pantry and it was quite tasty, steak and vegetables, Marie Callender brand. I had a quiet evening and was falling asleep over my IPad, lol!

Sunday
I again woke well before my alarm went off and packed the last items into my suitcase. I decided to catch the shuttle to the airport early and I watched a plane disappear into the low cloud just after take offand managed to spend twenty minutes in United Club, time for a quick coffee and to freshen up. The plane boarded on time and it was a full flight.

However, there was a connecting flight that was late in so we had to wait for quite a few passengers. There was at least 15 minutes between the first latecomer and the last so some people obviously did not bother to hurry. They actually closed the door and then re-opened it for one passenger, this is a very rare occurrence.

We then had to queue to take off so we were about an hour leaving. By this time I needed to use the restroom but could not, Every bump as we taxied made me feel more uncomfortable, lol! I waited until we were almost at cruising height and then just had to ignore the seat belt sign, such a relief!

The flight was one of the bumpiest I had been on, the bumps were not too bad but there were quite a few stretches of them and twice the cabin crew were instructed to take their seats

In spite of the late departure we were only about 5 minutes late into Seattle. Just as we landed the rain started and there was very heavy rain for a while at the airport with some dark clouds. Cheryl and Jim even had some hail as they entered the airport before they found me! We went to the Black Bear, Federal Way, for a late lunch and I had the Beef roll au Jus, it was tasty but I could only eat half so I took the rest home for tea!

After shopping at Fred Meyer we headed home where the three girls (Serenity, Gacie and newcomer Maggie) went bananas for a while but finally settled down! I unpacked my luggage before tea and after a shower, headed to bed.

Monday and Tuesday I spent some time watching TV and unwinding, my cough is still giving me some trouble, Cheryl introduced me to some sugar free cough lozenges and they do help a bit! Jim went to school on Monday and Wednesday, he is in an advanced Englih class and it is causing him some stress!

After a quiet day on Wednesday, we went out for tea meeting up with Jamie and Alan, two friends of Cheryl and Jim, at the Pancake House. I had some onion rings and then the Swedish Pancakes, really crepes, that have Lingonberry butter and fruit, they were delicious, lol!

Jim finally dropped the English class and will pick up an easier one in the next semester. He can now concentrate on his remaining two classes.

Thursday and Friday were quiet days again, a friend of Cheryl's came round on Friday and they did some sewing.

On Saturday, Jim took his teams quizzing and Cheryl had two friends come round for scrapbooking, Jamie was one of them!

Cheryl made a delicious stew for tea with some Red Lobster biscuits, I do love them!

I took some photos of the girls in various stages of relaxation and even sleep. Maggie has gradually accepted me as one of her family, and she is a real love bug!

The weather has been a lot cooler than in Michigan and i am really feeling it, lol!

Sunday
I came across a delayed recording of the All Blacks vs Namibia and caught the final 15 minutes. It appears NBCSP is showing most games delayed which will be fine for me!

In the afternoon, Cheryl and I went for a walk along Pugot Sound in downtown Port Orchard. It was a very pleasant afternoon and the sun was quite warm.

It was a lovely walk, many of the trees are beginning to show their Autumn (Fall) foliage and there are a variety of colours. Lots of people were out walking, many people with their dogs!

We saw a drone and then a bright green underwater drone that looked a bit like a frog, I have never seen one before.

We wandered along and stopped for a while to watch the fish jumping, we could also hear the Sea Lions from across the other side of the sound.

On the way back we stopped to chat with two people who had two lovely dogs Schnauzers, one was a puppy, the older one was various shades of silver! We stopped to watch the jumping fish again as well as a seal that kept diving under then surfacing again.

We chatted to a couple of people, one lady for quite a while, before heading back to the car. I grabbed my iPad and took some photos of the trees, the Olympics and possibly Mount Baker in the Cascades.

We stopped so I could get a coffee on the way home, it was a lovely afternoon!
