Monday October 7 - Sumday October 13 (Port Orchard)

Monday/Tuesday
I spent a quiet couple of days chilling out and watching some TV. The new season shows have all started so I have been watching many of my favourites and will have a head start when I get back home, lol. I have also come across some good series that have not reached New Zealand.

On Tuesday morning, I did my washing and also took the sheets off my bed, Cheryl helped me make up my bed later in the afternoon.

Wednesday
Although the weather has turned a bit cold for me, the last couple of days have been glorious.

We have taken advantage of this with a couple of afternoon walks. We took Maggie, the black lab who has only been with Cheryl and Jim for about five weeks.

She came from family and knew Cheryl already so she has settled in well and integration with Serenity and Gracie has been fairly smooth.

The first walk took us up the drive, across the road and we carried on for a good distance.

There were lots of apple trees, including a winter apple, and the fall colours are beginning to appear.

Maggie was very good on the lead and seemed quite happy to be out with us. She was not phased when cars drove past and when we passed some people.

We went out for dinner again with the good friends of Cheryl and Jim, Jamie and Alan, and ate at the Big Apple Diner. We then went shopping at Walmarts, lol!

Thursday
Cheryl had to collect her new glasses so we went for a walk this afternoon near Costco at Gig Harbor.

Maggie came in the car with us, her first outing of this nature, and she was excellent.

Once the driver's seat was pushed forward a wee bit she was able to climb up with some help with a treat from me at the other side, lol.

She was very well behaved on the leash and nothing seemed to bother her, we did meet some people and a dog.

There were more trees showing their fall colours.

In particular I love the flame bushes and the trees that have fall colours on the sunny side and are still green on the other side.

We returned to the car and Maggie was very good while Cheryl went into Cosco. On the way home, Maggie lay on the back seat, very relaxed.

Back home and we collected Jim to go and get Subway for tea.
The moon was beautiful tonight and I hope it stays clear for the Harvest Moon on Saturday.

Friday
Cheryl and i were up and around fairly early as we were off to the Eagles Lodge in Belfair to join in a game of Bunko. We picked up Cheryl's friend, Kim, and were then on our way. It was a lovely day and more trees are showing their fall plumage!

We arrived well before 11 am and other people began turning up until all thirteen players wee assembled. We sat at tables in two groups of four and one five. We each had a blank sheet of paper, see photo, and a pencil. There were three die at each table and once a small hand bell was rung the first person rolled the dice.

We worked through the numbers 1 to 6 and that was one round. If the person rolling the dice threw any of the number being worked on then the number was counted and they kept rolling until there were none of the number. if they rolled three of any other number that scored 5 points. If they threw three of the number, they shouted Bunko, for a score of 21 points, and everyone stopped playing. The total of the number was recorded and the person with the highest score moved on to the next table. If it was a long game and a player reached 21 points for a number, this is a false Bunko but they still called out.

Once sixes had been played, the round ended. There were several very short games but also some very long games.
With people moving, it meant I just about met everyone in the group.

It was a fun way to spend a few hours. After three rounds we stopped to eat lunch which was cooked in the kitchen, I had the fish sandwich and it was very tasty as well as very cheap at $4.

We then resumed play until the completion of six rounds. i really enjoyed myself and just wish I could go again but they only meet once a month! I took a couple of photos on the way home. We had a lovely view of Mt Rainier on the way back home.

Back home, Cheryl and Jim prepaared to go and purchase meat from a truck that comes every year. There are butchers with the truck to cut up the meat as required. Generally, they purchase most of their meat for a year saving quite a bit of money. When they returned home they sat and vacuum packed all the meat into useful size packages that went into the downstairs deep freeze.

Saturday and Sunday
I chilled out some more and also caught up with the Rugby World Cup in Japan.

Unfortunately, there is a large Typhoon approaching and as well as casuing chaos for the people in its path, it has lead to some of the matches being called off.

Unfortunately, while the moon was beautiful on Friday night it ws too cloudy on Saturday for us to see it.
