Sunday May 7 (Boynton Beach to Fort Myers) & Monday May 8 (Fort Myers)

Sunday
We had a leisurely start to the day, I completed my final packing and made my farewells to Abby. We then headed off for Fort Myers but stopped so I cold pick up a couple of things at a Publix store while Jackie filled the car with gas. It was another glorious day, not a cloud in the sky and not too hot.

We picked up I75 and this took us across Florida via Alligator Alley. it was fascinating seeing all the boat ramps and areas where people can pull off the highway and walk nature trails. The canals followed the highway for many miles.

When we were not too far from the point where the highway turns to the north, we pulled off at a Food exit as I needed a restroom. We stopped at a Dunkin Donuts where we also bought some food, a croissant each and I also bought a coffee. The weather was much warmer in this part of Florida.

We headed off again and it was not too long before we reached the turnoff that would take us to my hotel. I had booked in for a couple of nights as my friend is not too well with a respiratory infection and I want to give her a couple more days to feel better.

We found the hotel easily and my room was ready so I could check in straight away. The journey had taken us about three hours. The front desk manager must have heard me talking as she came out and asked me to talk so she could listen, lol! As I do not have a car and was on the ground floor, they moved me a bit closer to the main area at my request!

I made my farewells to Jackie, I had a fabulous time and she looked after me so very well, I am very grateful and hope I can get down here again. I then went to my room, sorted my gear out and had a look at what I might possibly get up to on the morrow!

I walked down to the Starbucks that was about half a mile away and enjoyed another coffee, lol! I went to the nearby Target store and purchased a couple of food items I needed. Then it was back to the hotel to write my blog, and for yesterday that was a long one with many photos to upload, lol!!

Monday

It was another gorgeous day, clear blue skies, I have been so very lucky with the weather so far on this trip.

Well, the aim was to find some walking trails on the north of Lake Regional Park. I had searched the trails website and there were some clearly marked. After walking for just over a mile plus more round the area, it looks as if two large condo buildings and a hotel have blocked them off.

There were a couple of stone tables and seats with umbrellas outside a service garage so I sat down and did some investigation on maps. I discovered a place called Coconut Point, a huge mall with fountains and small lakes, and a bus service passed along the main road that I was walking towards and ended at the mall. I did not know where the nearest bus stop was so rang Lee tran to discover there was one opposite the City Mattress store very close by. The next bus was due in a couple of minutes so I said my thanks very hurriedly and hurried across the road to the stop. Of course, the bus was at least ten minutes, lol, but no worries!

It was a decent drive and we passed quite a bit of construction. The highway was very wide and obviously goes for some distance. I got off and walked right round from the bus stop not quite sure where I was going, lol, eventually I asked a security guy and he pointed way over the far side so off I went again.

I eventually found the lakes and there were a couple of tables with umbrellas so I sat at one and ate my packed lunch. There was a family at the other table and the little boy and girl were cuties, they both came to wave goodbye when they left!

It was a pleasant place to sit but I decided to move on. By this time there was an older couple at the other table and I stopped to talk about the lack of water in the lakes. It turned out they were from Newcastle visiting family over here, so we ended up having a good chat!

I explored a few more roads and found a Starbucks so no guesses as to what I did next, lol!

After a lovely coffee and a bit of a rest, I walked round the lakes and fountain to the bus stop. I was in plenty of time for the bus I had aimed to catch and was entertained by a (Mexican?) woman talking AT her friend, I say this as she was a real motormouth, her friend hardly said a word, lol!!

Again the driver let me pay the senior fare so kudos to both of them! 75 cents each way made it a very cheap afternoon out, lol.

Back at the hotel, i sorted a few things out and then went and lay by the pool for 45 minutes. It was pleasantly warm, yesterday I ad spoken to a couple on my arrival and the husband was swimming, he said the water was nice and warm. We had a lovely chat before I came in to catch up on the blog, shower and have tea.
