Tuesday May 9 (Fort Myers Beach)

It was yet another gorgeous day today. My friend is still sick so I rang to organise a taxi to take me to the next hotel, Sandpiper Gulf Resort, right on the beach. I did ask for an idea of what it might cost and it actually cost just below the lower end of the quote! The trip lasted over half an hour so I was very thankful. The taxi driver was a great guy and we had a lovely chat about all sorts of topics, the history of Savannah, the state of the Everglades and so on. I also shared a few of the places I have visited!

I arrived at the resort about 1 pm but the room was not quite ready so I went for a walk, it was so hot I was only out about half an hour. I had to wait ten more minutes but no worries as check in was officially 4 pm! The room is great, it has a separate kitchenette/dining area, a lounge area and the beds. I love cooking for myself so all is cool!

I unpacked and sorted out my gear and, at the same time, kept an eye on nextbus.com for the next trolley to come along heading north.

I caught it, paid my 25 cents and travelled along the beach road to the end point where there is a Walmart. I bought a few provisions and just as I was crossing the road back to the bus stop one drove up, timing!! I left the bus at my stop and hurried to my room so I could put the refrigerator items away.

For Myers beach is just like any beach resort all over the world. Where I am is the quieter area but at the north of the island it is all go, lots of restaurants, lots of souvenir shops and so on.

I wandered out to the pool later on and relaxed for half an hour in the evening sun, it was very pleasant. I checked out the beach and the sand is almost silver in colour, it is beautiful! Then it was time to write the blog, have a shower and cook tea!
