Tuesday - Friday December 27 - 30 (Home base, out and about)

Tuesday
It was another quiet day, it not so cold but the wind was keen while the sun shone through the clouds. I went for a short walk and was well wrapped up.

Just before 6 pm, we headed off to pick up Karleen and Lori on our way to the Ten pin bar in Ridgeville. I have been here several times before and the owner, Bill, always says he wants to move to New Zealand, lol. He is a bit of a character but always welcomes me!

I ordered Roast Beef Manhattan, it is a roast beef sandwich served with gray and mashed potato. The roast beef was so tender I did not really have to cut it up, it just fell apart. I did not eat the potato as the sandwich was plenty. I drank a couple of Redd Apple Ales (cider) with my meal, it sure was a lovely Christmas gift!

We had a lovely evening with so many laughs, we hardly stopped laughing, lol!

Then it was time to go home and a fairly early night.

Wednesday
It was a cloudy day today and the wind was still blowing. We had a quiet morning, I baked some Cranberry Cake, a simple, new to me, recipe that produces a lovely cake, sweet and sour, some tidying also took place, lol! I went out for a short walk then Deena and Mike arrived about 3 pm then it was time to get ready to go out for a meal. We were going to meet Joe and Lynda for a meal at Sam's Place, Blakeslee, it is about half an hour's drive west of where Lisa and Harry live. Mike drove us in his car so the rest of us could have a drink or two!

We arrived at the same time as Joe and Lynda and made our way inside. First of all there were vegetable platters these were followed by the hot platters. These were nibbled at followed by our salads while our meals were cooked. Sam's Place is famous for its steaks and six of us ordered them. There are T-Bones, Rib Eyes and Filets. We all ordered the latter and they come in three sizes, I ordered the medium and it was certainly enough. They are served with platters of home made hot potato chips and they are delicious. I had two Redd Apple Ales with my meal.

After the meal, we were served a small portion of cheesecake and a large jug of Mosehopper, their famous dessert drink. It is like a fancy slushy with alcohol of some description in it, delicious!! The owner then shouted us an Amaretto each, what a night, lol, I was certainly replete!

We were home by 7.30 pm so sat around while Christmas gifts were opened, again, lol!! I had a fairly early night again!

Thursday
It was a sunny start to the day but clouded over later in the afternoon, the wind was still very keen and I really noticed it when I returned from my walk, it was blowing right in my face. Harry was working in the barn, Mike went out to the Gym while Lisa and Deena went into Defiance.

Tonight we had a ham dinner with all the trimmings, it was Christmas again and I had enough crackers left for one each. Harry's mum joined us for the festivities!

Friday

Deena and Mike left about 12.30 pm to return home but not before Lisa cooked us an excellent breakfast which certainly filled me up! There were pancakes, bacon, eggs, home made fries and toast, a repast fit for a king, lol!

After they departed we sat around and then in mid afternoon headed to Defiance to get a few things including some of the Fancy Feast Medley Pate that Niko has taken a liking to, he sure is a spoiled cat, lol!!

After calling in at Meijers and purchasing all of the items we needed we headed to Biggbys, there was the most amazing sunset, the sky was a gorgeous crimson colour!

I purchased coffee for all of us, although I did get a free one with my card, yay!! I am not sure how Lisa can drink the slushy vanilla coffee in the cold weather but she does, lol! By this time there was an incredible crescent moon in the sky, a wonderful sight!

Back home and none of us were very hungry, not sure why! Lisa went up to bed to get some sleep before work while Harry and I watched Captain Phillips with Tom Hanks in the main role. It was a gripping film based on a true story and as I could not remember the events that occurred it kept me guessing!

Happy New Year everyone, celebrations at the sky Tower, Auckland!!!
