Thursday & Friday September 29 & 30

Thursday
Last night, I was just dozing off when there was a bright flash, it was lightening and the storm went on for a while. It appeared to have finished and I was dozing off again when there was one random bright flash followed by one rumble of thunder, lol! I finally was allowed to get some sleep!

It was cloudy and damp as we left to go to a Farmers Market on the other side of Harrisonburg but once we hit the lower levels the weather improved to be sunny and warm. It was not a huge place but it had a variety of outlets such as: saddlery, silver ware, lots of antiques and paintings, kitchen shop, gift shop, canning shop, and a cafe that sold espresso so after wandering round I sat with a latte and it was not bad at all!

We passed a very old and broken down barn and it reminded me of the plight of the ?Barn Owl. Their habitat, that of wooden barns, is disappearing from the countryside and it is making it difficult for them. Just another example of the way man has taken over without much thought to other life!

Once home, I learned what the expression changeable weather really means. It rained for a while then the sun came out and this was repeated many times throughout the afternoon! Some played games and I had a couple of hands of cribbage before the Deep Dish Taco Pie was served for dinner, it was delicious and I have taken the recipe for it. Christine and the boys had stayed home and set to making a Rainbow Cake with butter icing. It sure was full of bright colours and was lovely and light. This was served with the ice cream left over from yesterday.

As usual it was early to bed but I had packed all I could and there would not be too much to do in the morning.

Friday
I woke at about 3 am and could not get back to sleep so was not up too late, it was all action as we were packing up and leaving the place ship shape. I had purchased some peanuts (in their shells) earlier in the week and there were many left is I decided to throw some out for the squirrels.

Well, I hope they got some as from behind me three deer came running and started eating them. There was mum with a youngster and Pushy was the third, the latter took some from my hand.

A buck came over, looked like a ten pointer, but he was shy so I could not get the full face view of him on camera!

We farewelled Chris, Chris, Daniel and Devon and not long after, about 9.30 am we set out for home base. It was starting to rain as we left, mostly light rain, so was not too bad driving.

I had a good week but I feel the resort has a way to go in really catering for visitors. Too often places were shut and events were cancelled. There is nothing that can be done about the weather but there is a definite downside to visiting in the off seasons when it is not so crowded! When a gift shop is open but the cafe is not that maybe sums up the approach at Massanutten!

We had a really good run home, patches of light rain but not too much traffic and arrived just after 11 am. All hands on deck and the vehicle was unpacked with everything inside in 15 minutes.

I had a nice cu of tea and then it was time to unpack and put some things in the second smaller case I had purchased at Walmarts about ten days ago. I am really looking ahead to my next trip when I will need winter clothes and they do take up more space. I would rather have a second suitcase than have my very large one full and therefore very heavy!!

I had a short nap and then we went out to a local cafe called "The Dining Room" for an early tea. I was not that hungry so ordered a BLT but they have a very full menu. The cafe was already filling up and I saw a couple of guys turn round and walk out when they saw how full it was.

I sent a quiet evening, reading and playing games on my IPad before heading off early to shower and bed.
