We drove towards the coast and past the Naval base on Garden Island, it belongs to the Navy and there is no access for mere mortals! We continued on and stopped at Rockingham to paddle in the Indian Ocean, the water was so clear and warm. After a coffee we continued the coastal scenic drive to Point Peron. A huge part of the coastline has been taken over by a refinery, wheat silos with an attached wharf as well as other industries.
We arrived at Rockingham where we stopped for a break. Margaret and I went for a paddle in the Indian Ocean, the water was so very clear and warm. We wandered back to meet Edgar and there was an awful noise of birds squawking, there was a colony of Gallahs in the trees overhead. We stopped for a coffee before continuing along the scenic drive.
We stopped again alongside the ocean and there were some good photo ops. We walked up to a lookout and the ocean was beautiful with some different blues. There is also evidence of sandbars. We also saw a World War II battery which had been built to protect the coast. There were a couple of guys at the battery and one of them was showing how idiotic he could be by swinging on the wires above.
Not much further on we arrived at Shoalwater Beach, across the water lies Penguin Island. As the name suggest there is a colony of small penguins on the island and we plan to return later in the week to catch the ferry to the island. We also saw a huge number of Kiteboarders and conditions were good with a stiff breeze for them to work with.

After all this beautiful scenery we headed back to Perth and base via the freeway, certainly this was a great afternoon out!
