Tuesday March 4 - adventures in Cleveland

Oh my goodness what a day!! This day was all about my adventures in the suburbs of Cleveland!!

My cough has returned so I did not sleep very well, such is life. The weather was cold and sunny to begin with but then the clouds rolled in, not sure if we will get some snow.

While I having yet another free hotel breakfast the fridge I had requested appeared in my room so all is well. I decided to catch the bus to Walmart and what a bad decision that was! I walked along Superior street and passed the huge Horseshoe Casino, i won;t be going in there anytime soon. I did not have to long to wait for the bus and I was the only pale skinned passenger for quite some time!! It travelled through some very poor parts of Cleveland before reaching the outskirts and the better housing was very obvious.

We passed a lot of shopping areas and I should have got off at one of those but, no, Walmart it was! I figured I was about half way to Toledo by the time we reached the store. After walking for ages to find the entrance I discovered it was not a Walmart as I have come to know them, it had no fresh produce and was the worst Walmart I have been in, just my luck! I have to say that the Defiance Walmart s one of the best I have seen!  I bought one thing on my list and headed back to the Parma Transit Centre. I picked up some bus schedules and checked with a woman who told me that a 45 would take me back to town. So that was the next bus along and I duly got on it. Because it was a long trip I decided to play some games on my IPad so was not concentrating on what was outside!

After some time the bus stopped in the middle of nowhere it seemed and the driver asked me where I wanted to go, when I told him he said he did not go there, LOL! So after waiting twenty minutes or so for him to start his run he dropped me back at the Community College for me to catch the 45 that did go to town. He told me that bus would arrive just after him so there is a connecting service. He also gave me a courtesy ticket so I did jot have to pay again. What a hoot, the first time I have got myself lost or in the wrong place!! Well, it had to happen and I will be very careful in the future!

I went inside the College entry to keep out of the cold and eventually the bus arrived, ten minutes late!! Finally, I was headed in the right direction!! The driver certainly kept his foot down and we went through many traffic lights on amber!!

When we arrived back at Public Square, I went in search of the Starbucks I had seen on Google Maps. Well, I could not find it so I asked some ladies waiting at a bus stop outside the Key Bank Tower building. No wonder I could not find the Starbucks, it was inside the building, darn it!! I felt better after a restroom visit and the coffee I had also managed to find a visitor map of the area.

I found that there was a market store with all the things I needed not too far away so walked along St Clair Street and eventually found the store. it was not too expensive and they even had my water on a special, my luck had changed!! So, carrying my goodies I walked back up to Superior Street to head back to the hotel.

The sidewalks were almost clear of ice and every time I came across a patch I thought of Diane who had been most concerned about me slipping on some ice!!

Finally, I made it back to the hotel arriving at 5.45 pm after leaving at 10.45 am, a much, much longer day than anticipated!! The temperature outside was 20 degrees F or -7 degrees C, enough said!!! I took a couple of photos from my bedroom window just to prove it!!

It was time to try and get some of the salt stains off my shoes, they have served me so well and have to survive another three weeks. I will not be taking them home with me but will wear my light pair that I came over in and have not worn since then!! I found a deluxe shoe cleaning mitt, although I am not sure it was meant to be used how I did!! It will be very interesting to see what they look like in the morning!
