Sunday January 19 - the Exploratorium in San Fran

Today was a wonderful day, again the sun shone down out of a clear blue sky although as we neared San Francisco there was some haze around, nothing strange there! We spent a good part of the day at the Exploratorium. If you have never been there it is a special place to visit especially for kids. It is very much a hands-on experience, lots of different activities, lots of questions and puzzles to solve with answers to all. There is also much of interest about San Francisco, the history and information about earthquakes, as well as lots of information about the bay and the environment. There are areas all about vision and others all about sound. It truly is a fascinating place to visit.
Eliza kept her dad occupied while the boys soon found themselves in an area where they could put together marble tracks on peg board using a variety of different objects. They spent all the time pre-lunch engrossed in a project and after I had left them later on returned there, having to be dragged away as the place was closing! I had a good wander round then spent some time watching the boys but also spent time with some simple circuit boards having some fun.

I left them a bit early as I wanted to buy another long sleeved sweat shirt, think I might need it later on! I found a nice top and not too expensive. I then wandered along to the Rain Forest Cafe, I had promised the kids, and their parents, I would treat them on my last night and this was their choice! Another fascinating and unusual place to visit!

It is done up like a rain forest with model birds and animals, many of whom move at various times. Also, every half an hour there is a tropical thunder storm with sound and light effects but no rain, thank goodness! There were elephants, tigers, cougars, monkeys, chimpanzees, butterflies, parrots and an anaconda. There were also several aquarium placed around the cafe. The food was not bad either and it was a wonderful experience for all. An amazing evening with a special group of people.
