Friday July 5 - Monday July 22 (Stryker et al)

Friday (5) to Friday (12)
Lisa and Harry came home on Sunday with a packed car. they had a great time visiting antique stores in Minnesota. They then had a fabulous time at Harry's family reunion near Madison Wisconsin.

On Monday we went into Defiance so Lisa could get in some supplies.

Lisa did not have to return to work this week as some work is going on at the doughbox so the rest of the week was spent quietly until......

Friday July 12
We went along to the Williams Humane Society today.

There are some gorgeous kittens in particular the tuxies were very playful and full of life. Of course, typical kitten, they had overturned their food bowl, lol!

We spent some time wih the kittens before heading to the adult cat room.

There were some very pretty cats and two of the calicos are a bonded pair.

The place is kept spotless and there is no smell!

There are also a large number of dogs of many varieties including a white german shepherd, very unusual.

Sadly, two of the dogs had been turned in as their owners were in prison.

The bulldog belongs to one of the young women who work there and she has already started training the puppy!

I received some good news today, my claim has been accepted by the insurance company that is involved with the complimentary travel insurance on my credit card, phew!

Saturday (13) to Thursday (18)
The weekend was spent quietly around home.

Sunday, and what a sad day it was for New Zealand today.

Our cricket team, the Blackcaps, was playing in the World Cup final against England in England. They had done really well to reach the final as they were not favoured to do so.

It was a a close and exciting game with a heartbreaking finish, the scores were tied after the regulation 50 overs each. There was then a super over and the scores were tied again, so England won as they had scored more boundaries.

The umpires made a crucial mistake in the super over and England ended up with one more run than they should have had.

In the last world cup, the team that had most wickets left in the event of a tie would be the winners, New Zealand would have won under that rule. Most observers felt the cup should have been shared!! (Please do not ask me to explain the game by typing, lol!)

On Monday, Lisa and I went into Defiance as Lisa had a nail appointment, she dropped me off at Biggby Coffee so I could wait there. We went shopping before heading home.

On Tuesday, Lisa took me into Archbold for the second X-Ray on my wrist. It appears that the fracture has worsened and they think surgery might be called for. An appointment was made with an orthopaedic doctor in Bryan on the following afternoon.

On Wednesday afternoon, it was off to see the doctor and I received some good news.

My injury is a Colles fracture and the doctor did not think it would need surgery. He told me the bone was nice and straight and should heal on its own. I do have some arthritis in my thumb joint and it will probably give me some discomfort.

I have a follow up visit scheduled on the Monday before I Ieave for Michigan. Back at home, I contacted my own doctor in New Zealand, to set a couple of things in motion but did not have to worry about changing my flight home, phew!!

Fri July 19
I had a lovely day out with Lisa and Harry.

We started by driving north to Mc Auliffe’s Meats. They have an incredible selection of meats, vegetables, cheeses, along with many other foods.

The prices are good too, for example, brown eggs .99/dozen and medium eggs .44/dozen!

We then drove west to the Coldwater area to visit some antique stores.

The main stores visited were the Allen Antique Mall and Hog Creek Antiques.

I purchased a couple of small items and Lisa added some more ceramics to her collection.

I also put some money towards some green decorative vintage Lucite grapes for Lisa's birthday, she already has other grapes of this type.

At Hog Creek, I saw a cushion with kittens on it and I just had to buy it, I could not resist! It was placed in a large plastic bag and I will have to hope I can get it home as paart of my carry on!!

On Saturday, Lisa and Harry spent the day trimming trees and bushes, they were both so tired when they came in. Karleen and Lori called in and we are going to Ten Pin on Wednesday evening.

Harry had to go trucking early on Sunday and there was some recompense for New Zealand today when the Silver Ferns won the World Cup Netball final in the UK. They defeated arch rivals Australia in the final having lost the last three world cup finals to that team! It was an exciting game and was a huge turn around for the team as they had lost so many games to various teams over the last 18 months.

Lisa and I went out to the roadside store for some fresh vegetables and then on to Wauseon as Lisa wanted to check out a small business that a lady runs and has many new items at very cheap prices.

We then passed the skateboarding building and there was a craft fair open. Lisa went to check inside and discovered there is a Flea Market there next Friday. Our final destination was Walmarts and I bought a few items before returning to the car to wait for Lisa.

On the way home we could see the dark clouds that had built up and it was obvoously raining in several places. When we arrived home it had started to rain but we were inside before the worst arrived. There was some thunder and lightning as well.

Monday was spent quietly again but it was so much cooler, the windows were open and a lovely breeze blew through the house. This was so nice after the humid weather with occasional thunderstorms we have had over the last few weeks!
