Wednesday September 7 (Gatlinburg)

After a fairly good night's sleep we went across the road to get our free pancakes for breakfast. They were good but I think I will do the buffet for $5 tomorrow, better for me, lol!

This part of Tennessee is Dolly Parton country and she must be raking in the cash, lol. Dollywood is here and it is very expensive to visit, as are most of the other major attractions.

After we had finished, we all the piled in to Terri's car and set off for Gatlinburg. It was a very warm day, later in the day the outside temperature was 98 F!! On the way we again passed the Titanic museum that has a large model of the front half of the Titanic!
As well as all the commercial stuff, Gatlinburg has some really quaint buildings. We drove through the town until we found the car parking close to the Sky Lift.

This was a chair lift that went up to a higher peak. Madison came with me and Steve with Terri, It was a short but steep climb and very enjoyable. At the top, we wandered around, I bought a few fridge magnets and then we took some photos before returning to the bottom.

We then wandered down the street to check things out and I bought a coffee in a mall called The Village, the mall was very pretty. We carried on exploring and visited a few shops along the way.

I purchased a neat T-Shirt for Grant, the logo was heat sealed onto the shirt! We also saw an interesting T-Shirt for blondes, lol!

As we walked we saw all sorts of antique/souped up/hot rod cars. We decided to get a pretzel at Aunty Anne's. The pretzel was fine but the low calorie fruit drink, sparkling lime and lemon was too much for the machine. It delivered about an inch of drink before failing. The two girls in the shop tried to sort the issue but after 15 minutes we gave up, lol!! Drama abounds in my life!!
We were going to try some Moonshine tasting but Terri did not have her ID to prove she was 21+. So we all gave it a miss, instead we sat in the rocking chairs to relax and listened to a live country band for a while. Steve suddenly arrived with a Starbucks coffee for me, it was very welcome! On the way back to the hotel we went to Walmarts. I bought some ICE drinks and also three chairs for Steve, Terri and myself to sit on the strip, lol!!

Back at the hotel I lay down for an hour or so and worked on my blog. Just after 5 pm we left for dinner at the Apple Barn.

What a meal that was!! Each meal comes with soup, salad and a dessert. We were also served Apple Fritters to begin and Apple Julep. I had the Chicken Pot Pie and it was very tasty, I did not touch the mashed potato or side, lol!! We all took our desserts to go!!

We returned to the hotel and after a wee break we headed off to "The Island" which was just down the road from the hotel. There is a variety of entertainment as well as eating places in this area. one of the most spectacular is the fountain that plays in different colours but later it also dances to music. The Great Smoky Mountain Wheel is also situated here, Maddison and I went on this and we saw the lights of the strip as well as a good view from 200 feet up overlooking the fountain. I hope we get to go on this in the daylight as it would give great views of the countryside.

We watched as a young girl was at the top of a tower attempting some sort of bungy jump, Te guy at the top was talking to her and there was quite a crowd down below but the poor girl just found it too much and could not find the nerve to jump!!

I wandered back to the hotel before the others, and had a lovely shower before finishing and publishing the blog.
