Sunday September 18 - Wednesday September 21 (Washiington & Inwood)

This has been an incredibly emotional and difficult three days hence the non-appearance of my blog. Even writing this today (Wednesday) I have become very emotional again!

Sunday
Phew it was warm today, 88 and felt like 106!! I did not sleep well, I must have been missing my roomie! I had a lazy morning before checking out at noon but I left my bags at the hotel. I went out to the Starbucks by the hotel, what a mistake! Six people in front of me + Sunday + two people working = twenty minutes wait until I ordered!!
Out of nowhere, this older guy started to talk to me, then sat down opposite, he kept apologising, lol, but he must have had some background as he knew a lot of history. I think my accent started the convo, lol! I was not worried as it was very public and I waited a while after he left.

Then I wandered out and you know you are in Washington when you see a cafe called The West Wing, lol. I walked on and up to the Capitol, which is less than ten minutes from the hotel. I  wandered round and took a few photos. I took a couple of selfies just to prove I was actually there, lol!

There was some sort of event or entertainment on and the base could be heard from a long way away, it certainly spoiled a lovey afternoon. On returning to the hotel, I had another coffee then collected my bags and caught a taxi to Union Station!

My timing was excellent, I arrived at the Red Cap area and a redcap asked for my ticket. He then took me straight to a waiting area further inside and within ten minutes we were heading to the train. I am in the rear coach, lol!

We left on time and it was a good run through to Martinsburg, we even arrived a couple of minutes early, wow!. The station was all shut up so I had to hike my gear up the steps, not funny when you are playing at being a pack horse, lol! Just as I was nearing the corner, Cheryl was came round it, thank goodness. It did not take us long to reach home base. Dan and Shalon were both there to welcome us.

I unpacked and then it was time for tea, a lovely meal of pork roast, green beans and mashed potato. The pork was deliciously tender! This was followed by cheesecake and cherry pie filling as topping.

Later, I went to my room to have a shower before going to bed. On checking my email I saw there was one from the vet, it contained devastating news, Sylvie was no better and she would have to be put to sleep on Wednesday morning New Zealand time. It was just the very worst news that I did not really want to hear and I wish I could have been at home for her.

I showered and went to bed early but, not surprisingly, sleep would not to come for hours.

Monday
Today was a quiet day, here was some rain and it was mostly cloudy. I am amazed by all the wonderful comments on my FB posts about Sylvie although it made me very emotional to read them at this time. I have saved them so I can view them later when I feel more able to cope.

Later, in the afternoon, we went out to the nearby Food Lion where I bought a few essentials including some of the ICE drinks I have come to enjoy.

Tea tonight was BBQ pulled pork, delicious, followed by more of the cheesecake.

Tuesday
Today was another quiet day after another poor night's sleep. The weather was somewhat cloudy after early morning fog but the sun came out later. I went over the road with Cheryl when she went over to feed the cats. I had some lovey hugs with Apollo and even Callie came over and rubbed against my legs. She does not take off like she used to, obviously getting used to the strange accent, lol!!

I was really waiting for the afternoon when it would coincide with Wednesday morning in New Zealand. finally, word came through from the vet that Sylvie was with them.

The vet sent me through some photos of Sylvie and I am so grateful to her, she is a lovely person and even apologised for not begin able to do more for Sylvie! So Sylvie is at peace and I am just sorry this all happened while I was not at home.

My friends here have been so very understanding as I have been an emotional mess and I have a feeling it will not cease for a while. I do need to see my Seb and make sure he is OK!

Again, I have been blown away with the support from my on-line and other friends as well as the Tinykittens group I belong to, it is so heartwarming!

There was a lovely sunset so I took a few photos from outside the side door.
Tea tonight was chicken with pizza sauce and cheese on noodles, followed by yet more of the cheesecake, it has lasted well!

Wednesday
I had the best night's sleep I have had in a few days and it was very welcome! It was foggy early again today but the sun soon came out and burnt it away. Although it was warm there was a lovely breeze at times.

We went out to Walmarts in Martinsburg this morning as Cheryl and Dan had some shopping to do. I actually purchased another suitcase, a smaller one, as I was thinking ahead to my next trip which will be a winter trip. That means heavier and thicker clothes to be packed as well as some Christmas gifts.

It will also spread the current packing which would probably fit into the larger case and be under the weight but might be heavy!

Cheryl and I went over the road as she had to feed the cats. Apollo immediately wanted cuddles so I picked him up. When I sat down, Callie came over and sat beside my feet, then rolled over for a tummy tickle, progress!! We then went to sit outside on the balcony and the cats joined us. Apollo hopped up and lay beside me and he could not get enough cuddles and tummy scratches. It sure is helping me to be able to spend a wee bit of time with the fur babies!

For tea we had delicious crab cakes, salad and my favourites Red Lobster biscuits, yum!
