Saturday May 21 (Millsboro, Ocean Beach & Assateague Island)

We were up early and off to Delaware today. My friends have had a bid accepted on a country house that they plan to use as a holiday home.
So another state visited, lol!

The weather was lousy, pouring with rain, so nothing changes, lol! We crossed the bridge that connects the island to the mainland, it is 4.3 miles long and  there are two separate spans one for each direction of travel.

Unfortunately, I could not see the length of the bridge due to poor visibility. There is also a tunnel connecting the island to the mainland.

We passed a huge "farm" of solar panels, never seen anything like it! Maryland is apparently investing in a lot of this type of electric power.

Not too long after, we stopped for a comfort stop at a Royal Farms, it is obviously a popular stop and has a great variety of drinks, snacks and food.

We stopped in Bridgeville for brunch and when we came out it was raining even harder. We then crossed into Sussex County, lol, this was the county I grew up in in England.

We finally made our way to the house which is in Millsboro. It is back from the sea but only 20 minutes from the beach. We had a good look round the outside, they obviously do not have a key yet, the closing date is in June and they are waiting on an engineers report.

We drove through Fenwick Island, this is very close to Ocean City, Maryland. We drove on through and ended up in Ocean City. We drove round and found a lane where we could get to the Boardwalk.

Then Mayo and I hopped out while Scott and Phoenix waited in the car. It was very wet and windy but I managed to take a few photos. There was a Candy Kitchen that sold saltwater taffy.

We were heading home but took a detour to Assateague Island where there are herds of wild horses. We drove round and saw a small herd of them, including a foal. On the way out we saw a couple more horses, they seem to ignore the humans and just go about their business.

We drove through heavy rain all the way home, stopping for petrol jut before the bridge. We passed signs to Baltimore and were in the Annapolis/Chesapeake Bay area, the former is the capital of Maryland.

We arrived home about 6 pm and I think everyone was tired. I did not feel particularly hungry so only ate toast for tea.
