It was a gorgeous morning and I saw the sun begin to rise on the way into Charlotte. We arrived at the station at 6.15 am so had plenty of time for a wee chat. All were aboard by 7 am and we departed on time, would it last?
The driver had his foot to the floor and we certainly motored along. However, this did not save us from running a little late, probably due to all the stops the train makes. I passed through Wilson and Rocky Mount again and had some banter with Terri about getting off at Wilson and she would pick me up, lol!
Near Stony Creek, we were told we would have to wait for train 89 to clear the track. It was ahead of us do we had to pull up on the other track. We waited a while and then reversed so we could pull up on the correct track! By the time we reached Petersburg we were 55 minutes late, not sure if we will make any of that up! By Richmond, we had made up 10 minutes so we will see what happens from here on.
The guy in the seat behind me had joined the train a few stations after Charlotte and proceeded to talk to people on his laptop from then on! I could hear every word so I put my earbuds on and listened to music but had to have the volume up higher than necessary to cover the sound of his chat. At Petersburg, after four hours of this, I asked the attendant if I could move forward to an empty seat so I could turn the volume down but, darn it, instead she went and asked him to keep his volume down, it did not make much difference, lol!
The good weather seems to be following me, so fingers crossed for DC, although as I am spending two days in museums it probably does not really matter!
As we neared Washington, I took a few photos, the latter two were of The George Washington Masonic National Memorial. We eventually arrived at 5.12 pm, 35 minutes late so they did catch some time up.
I grabbed a Starbucks while I waited for my checked bag then headed to the Metro to get to where I would be picked up. Mayo and her son Phoenix were waiting at the station entrance for me so all was good. She and her family have made the headlines on an international scale in a big way, it is all over the Internet.
They live in a large house in a suburb of Maryland and have a beautiful and intelligent dog, Armisis. He does all sorts of tricks, is very loving and is over ten years old.
I was very tired so headed off to bed at a reasonable hour.
