Monday December 22/Tuesday December 23 (a different kind of journey begins!)

Today I went to the SPCA to pick up some foster kittens for a couple of weeks, I came home with a mother cat and her five 2 week kittens!! After a traumatic start, when I could not find the mother so figured I was a foster failure within half an hour, things settled down. The mother eventually came out of hiding and I could relax and feel very relieved.

I have set up my study as a home for the fosters and am keeping my two well away!!

Later in the evening, I went into the room and discovered Chrissy was missing and there were only four kittens. This time when I spoke she came out to see me and I discovered where her hiding place was so that has now been blocked off! The missing kitten also appeared form the same place and it was obvious Chrissy was trying to move them all there.

Obviously she was uncomfortable "out on the open" so I moved the bed, kindly donated by Seb and Sylvie, into the space under the desk. She settled in with her kittens and seemed much more secure and relaxed.

Arrival weights: K1 (245), K2 (260), K3 (210), K4 (265), K5 (270)

So ended my first day of fostering, what a day!!!

Tuesday was another day for the fosters, The mother is starting to settle down, it must have been so traumatic for her. She is so small and has done such a great job raising her five babies so far. I was worried that she was not bating the kittens last night but today she is, thank goodness!!

She will let me handle the babies but keeps a good eye on them. She also enjoys time way when they are sleeping.

A couple of times when I checked in on them, I found Chrissy out of her bed with the kittens at the milk bar. So I put some cardboard around the opening so the kittens are not wandering all over yet. I will make this space bigger in a couple of days.

Tuesday's weights: K1 (260,+15), K2 (285,+25), K3 (215, +5), K4 (285, +20), K5 (280, +10)
