Tuesday September 18 (Dubai, Burj Kalipha)

Tuesday afternoon
I caught the hotel shuttle over to the Dubai Mall where people are employed to control traffic and make sure that people can use the pedestrian crossings safely. I was waiting to cross and a vehicle was approaching at such speed that the tyres screeched when the driver realised he was being signalled to stop, lol

I walked a long way through the mall to At the Top where I could exchange my vouchers for two activities for tickets. On the way I passed an Easy Taxi, lol, I can see why someone might use it.

In the malll there are all the big stores one might expect to see, Bloomingdales for example, as well as lots of eateries.

I then wandered off to get some lunch before going up the Burj (Eng - Tower) Kalipha.I went up earlier than my ticket but they seem very laid back about times, possibly because it is the end of the season.

The lift up to the 125th floor was very fast and my ears popped twice on the way up, lol! We were able to wander around and stay as long as we liked, we could also go down the steps to the floor below.

It was amazing to see the views even though it was quite hazy, this is often the case in Dubai.

Apparently the haze is created by sand storms in the desert and there are occasions when visibility in Dubai is reduced to about one metre for a short time.

It was still possible to see how the city has been cretaed out of the desert, the sandy colouring was even apparent in many of the older buidiings.

There are many artificial waterways throughout the city and we could just see the waters of the gulf and the Sail (Burj Al Arab, Jumeira) Hotel was a ghostly apparition, lol!

Straight down from the Burj, the artificial lake can be seen along with the framework for the fountains that I would see from the lake the following evening.

As I did not want to wait around a couple of hours for the hotel shuttle, I took a taxi back to the hotel and had a light dinner in the restaurant, Fridays, before a shower and bed.

I was very tired as I had been up for appoximately 42 hours with only about six hours napping on the plane and I had been very busy all day!
