The weather was looking somewhat changeable and after breakfast I headed out to catch a bus to Forest Park. I missed a turn and ended up walking much further than I needed to, lol! I finally found the bus stop and waitde for the bus. After a while I decided to check the cloud in the direction the weather was coming from. Oh boy, the cloud was black so I decided to cross the road and catch a bus that would take me into the town centre and the nearest stop to the museums.
It started to rain just as the bus arrived and by the time I reached my stop it was absolutely pouring down! I sheltered in the lobby of an apartment block for a while and then headed up the road towards the museums. At the top of the road I found a Stop and Go market store and incredibly they sold umbrellas, so I purchased one for $3.49! It made a real difference as I headed to the museums.
By this time it had stopped raining and was the sun was starting to come out.
The garden was quite interesting and there were some bronze statues in different settings. One represented Dr Seuss the Cat in a Hat!
At least the weather had cleared so I headed back to town and found a nice cafe, Hot Table, where they serve Paninis of three different sizes and you can basically build your own, a bit like Subway but nicer food. The shredded beef and onion was delicious!
You know
that sinking feeling when you have somewhere to be to catch transport and you
ordered a cab well ahead of time............and, it still had not arrived half an
hour later, even after a second phone call!! Well, that!!
A
phone call to a second company, another call to them and bingo a cab arrived,
phew! He did drop me on the wrong side of the station but I had enough time,
with the help of a security person and then a lovely lady to get my suitcase to
the train.
I
had a sleeper and there is no luggage space
on these coaches so my suitcase was wandering the vestibule all alone!! I could not
check it as Bryan has no facilities for checked baggage, lol!
The dinners came in a box and I had the beef, which was served hot and very tender, this is a new concept that Amtrak is trialling! The boxes are made of Balsa wood! The couple and I swapped travel tales of course,
they do a lot of camping and seem to have family all over the world, lol! A son
lives just outside Auckland NZ.
So then to
sleep, perchance to dream!
