Tuesday 1 May (Boynton Beach to Key Largo)

Last night we had a gorgeous moon and try as I might I just could not get the camera to pick up the orange colour it was bathed in. Jupiter was shining very brightly and not too far fom the moon.

I had very little sleep last night so I spent a lot of time yawning today, lol!! I ate a fairly early breakfast and we were on the road by just after 10 am. We travelled south on A1A, the highway nearest to the coast.

It was a pleasant day, warm with clear skies to begin with although rather windy.

Along the way we would catch glimpses of the sea and beaches while we saw many very expensive boats on the intercoastal waterway. There were also a number of large obviously very expensive houses.

Along the way, we saw many condos, some of them many floors high. These condos are springing up all over the place especially close to the ocean. I had to laugh when I caught sight of a seat with the advertising message “divorcewithoutwar.com”!

We also saw many signs indicating that the local beach was a turtle beach and the street lights would be switched off overnight.

We travelled through many beach communities until we reached Fort Lauderdale where the road works began and carried on until we were well south of Miami.

There were a few very poor drivers in evidence one, in particular, nearly collected us! We went through a small tunnel and then underneath two runways at the FL airport, lol! Traffic was building up by now and it was fairly heavy until we were well way from Miami. We stopped at a Starbucks in north Miami for a bacon and egg bun and a coffee. Along the way, we crossed several bridges that can be raised to let tall boats pass along the waterway.

The cloud had been building up since midday and we met some very heavy rain. We were tying to work out where to eat dinner and breakfast the next day but there did not seem to be any geat places near the hotel. We noticed a Walmarts sign so turned in to get some supplies. Well, we drove round and round the shopping area and could not find it, lol. Finally, we saw it right at the back well away from the road. We managed to get food for dinner (neither of us really felt like going out) and breakfast!

We managed to find our way back out without too much trouble, lol, and the headed to our hotel. We did see the Everglades to the west as we travelled further south and some areas had fences on that sid eof the road. We were both tired when we rached our destination and were pleased to unpack and relax. I did walk back to a garage with a Tom Thumb food market to purchase some milk and the lovely server gavr me two T-Bags when i asked if I could buy a couple! Unfortunately, the hotel free WiFi was not working, in this day and age it is unacceptable.
