Thursday 3 May (Key West)

I was up early after very little sleep and enjoyed my free continental breakfast. It was wet everywhere the aftermath of some heavy overnight rain.

However, the cloud was soon burned away and it was a very warm, sunny day! I had an early breakfast an was joined by the tuxedo kitty who decided the hotel would be his home, lol.

Today it was butterflies and flamingos. We also saw the southern most point of the USA where there was a very long queue of people wanting their photo with the marker, I just took a photo of it, lol!

The Butterfly House is quite small but there are plenty of butterflies, some birds and a bonded pair of flamingos, Rhett and Scarlett. They are in mating season so they were consantly going through their routine of "talking" to each other, showing their wings and sometimes bowing afterwards.

They will not mate as flamingos only mate when they are in a group, this is because they take turns looking after their young! The male ws much larger than the female but they wer both very interested in "us" humans!

For those of you who live near or use Route 1, we went to see the 0 mile marker which just happens to be in Key West, lol! Depending which way you look at it, it is both the start or the end of Route 1! We did plenty of driving up, down and around Duval Street often getting semi lost due to the many One Way streets,we also ended up going the wrong way down a few of them, lol!!

We then went to the Banana Cafe for lunch, it is a French cafe, one of many in Key West. It was very pleasant sitting beside the open window watching the world go by, the meal was good too! then it was back to the hotel and a relaxing afternoon.

We went back to the hotel and I spent some time relaxing on my bed as well as drifting off to sleep from time to time, lol. About 7 pm I contacted Jackie to see what we were doing for tea, so I grabbed a Lobster Roll at a restaurant very near the hotel while Jackie collected the elecric car as we were on our way to Starbucks for coffee. We got a wee bit lost finding it but not too bad, we did find our way back to the Duval Hotel parking area with no problems, yaya!

Observations of Key West, I already mentioned the culturally diverse nature of KW but the variety of transport modes is worth mention. There are many cars on the road but thy compete with buses, taxis, scooters, golf carts/electric cars, bicycles and pedestrians of course.

I also feel as if I have taken a step back in time, especially with regard to the buildings, many

of them are very colonial in style and being used as B&Bs, cafes/restaurants or souvenier shops. it was another very interesting day!
