Friday May12 (Move to new hotel in Fort Myers)

There was more cloud around today but it was still nice and warm. After breakfast I checked my room and then checked out. I had ordered a taxi for 11.30 but he turned up at 11.10, just as well I was ready, lol!! It was the same guy who brought me here and he has given me his card so I can book him for Tuesday morning when I need to get to the Amtrak bus stop.

It took about 20 minutes to reach the hotel which is not far from the road to Sanibel Island. unfortunately, there is no bus service over to the island.

Check in time was 4 pm so I expected quite  wait, but luck was on my side and my room was ready, yay!! The room is the best by far on my trip. From the door, on the right is the kitchenette and straight ahead is the sitting area with a small balcony outside overlooking the inevitable pool. There is a door, which can be closed, through to the bedroom on the right is the wardrobe and hand basin, beyond that the bathroom.

I had been upstairs about ten minutes and the phone went, it was reception asking me if my room was OK! This is the first time in any hotel that this has happened, such great customer service.

I unpacked and sorted out my gear then I went to the nearby Publix to purchase a provisions for my time here. I have been carrying items with me as I travel but was getting low on some and I needed to sort out my four evening meals!

I returned to the hotel, sorted through my photos for yesterday's blog, that was a big job as I took nearly 700 photos, lol! I also rang Amtrak to check on a few things for the rest of my trip.

Tonight I had steak and onions for tea with (originally) frozen Carrots and Peas. They were to be steamed in the microwave still in the bag and turned out very well. This is a new idea for me and the end result was excellent. I have plenty left for two more servings.

I sorted out my gear for tomorrow as I am catching a bus then the trolley to Lover's Key State Park. I intend to hire a bike and ride some of the trails, there may well be the opportunity to see dolphins and bald eagles along with other birds.

The photos are a few from the sunset looking out across Fort Myers Beach form the hotel last night.
