Tuesday August 30 (River Landing)/Wednesday August 31 (Ayden)

Tuesday

I had a reasonable night's sleep last night and it would appear I have a different room mate, lol! Matty spent some time on my bed and is gradually moving closer, lol!

We had a lazy morning and Terri rang a friend who she has known from her New York days since she was in school. The idea was to go and visit her tomorrow but her friend plays golf on Wednesday mornings so we ended up making the decision to go today. She lives in a gated community called River Landing near the small town of Wallace, NC. It is just over an hour's drive from Ayden and the traffic was not too bad, we arrived about 1 pm.

The community is set up on vast grounds that enclose two 18 hole golf courses as well as many houses. All the houses are individually designed although there are guidelines and they are very beautiful with lots of character. Terri's friend, Helen, has a gorgeous house with a lovely water view. It is actually on the market but she is not in a hurry to sell.

Helen has four cats, Hope, Grace, Faith and Sophie. We were having a coffee and Hope came into the kitchen to talk to us, she is a gorgeous long haired Calico.

We were given a tour of the house and met the other three cats on the way. Grace is the oldest and spends most of her days lazing on top of a sofa while Faith, who is Hope's twin, and Sophie were under Helen's bed. Faith did come out but Sophie is very shy and she stayed where she was.

Helen met Hope and Faith as young kittens when she was at a conference in Texas, ended up rescuing them and bringing them home. She carried her briefcase in one hand and a carrier in the other, lol!!

Helen then took us on a tour of part of the grounds in her golf Buggy. I sat on the back and managed to take a few photos.

We did stop at some places and, in particular, the Club House is magnificent. The River Lodge is a mainly outdoor facility which can also be hired for events.

The golf course we followed has some very tricky holes and accuracy would need to be at a premium, three holes in a row have a small creek running through them!! I imagine there are many penalty drops taken on them!!

It really is a wonderful area, so many trees, we heard an Osprey and saw a small deer running onto the trees. it really is an awesome place to live with an outdoor and indoor pool, gym, as well as many other facilities. The residents include families, working people as well as retired folk.

We had some cheese and biscuits before setting out for home after a lovely afternoon spent in great company. As it was rather late I bought us tea from the local Bojangles on the way home.

I went to bed a wee bit later than I have been and was joined by Matty who seems to have taken over a my room companion.

Wednesday

I had a good night's sleep and after a lazy morning I did some work on organising my photos. I transferred some from my IPad and began the task of deleting many from my IPad.

Once I have them on my laptop, I really do not need to leave them clogging up my IPad. At home I have an external TB hard drive on which all is backed up.

The humming birds are still hanging around and I cannot believe how tiny they are, I have seen videos of them but seeing them in real life really brings home how tiny they are.

Speaking of small, Hope is so much smaller than she looks in her photos. I had put an empty Ice bottle on the floor and she played with it for quite a while, I am not sure even if this will give a true indicator of her size.

I then updated my blog while Terri had an afternoon nap, lol!!

We had crab cakes for tea and I made some of the Red Lobster biscuits from a packet I purchased yesterday.
