Tuesday July 28 (Mariners vs Diamondbacks)

What a beautiful day I woke up to today! I woke late as it was a very late night. I had been watching the Tinykittens cam and was following a very emotional event. It was bitter sweet as I remembered holding Pizzaz!
After a late breakfast, I sat outside on the swing for an hour and actually fell asleep. Then it was a quick get ready to go out to the ball game at Safeco Stadium, the Seattle Mariners against the Arizona Diamondbacks.

Instead of meeting Jim for the ferry, we had to go and pick him up from work as his car alarm had run out of battery power and the ignition was locked.

We stopped at Safeways to get some batteries and I grabbed a Starbucks!!

We picked Jim up under an overpass near his work and headed to the Seattle ferry. We grabbed a bite to eat as we needed to head for the stadium once we arrived at the other side.

The crossing from Bremerton to Seattle is one of the nicest I have been on and the beautiful day meant it was at its best. There were good views of the Olympic Mountains as we pulled out of Bremerton. The sea water was very calm and the day was warm. We had some fabulous views of Mount Rainier and, of course, of Seattle as we drew closer.

We finally saw Century Link Field and Safeco Field side by side. It is not a straight run so as the ferry turns to go round an island the views sneak up on you! The aircraft climb very steeply out of nearby Seattle airport and level off almost as quickly.

We parked in the parking building opposite the stadium and walked across to the main entry. It seemed very crowded! Inside the Home Plate entrance there is a chandelier made up of baseball bats.
Safeco Field has a retractable roof and it is very imposing. We had good seats, level with the pitcher on the left field side. Unfortunately for the Mariners, the Diamondbacks, got on top of the Mariner's pitcher right from the start and the sixth innings saw loaded bases and three runs batted in to make the score 6 - 1. At last, the pitcher was changed! At the bottom of the sixth, Cano managed a home run but he was first up so only one run was scored.
It was such a beautiful evening, the blue sky gradually turning to dusk and the flags hardly moving, it was very mild. The lights kicked in as dusk fell. The third pitcher for the Mariners appeared in the eight innings but it made no difference as the Diamondbacks drew out to an 8 - 3 lead. Top of the ninth and the fourth pitcher appeared for the Mariners! From my perspective, the D-Backs outplayed the Mariners in every department tonight.
We missed the 10.30 m ferry so Jim drove home. I was dropped off and Cheryl went with Jim to pick his car up from work, a late night all round!
