Thursday November 6 (Fremantle and Perth)

Today was another day of sightseeing. We left a bit later than planned as one of Margaret's brothers and his wife dropped in for a chat. Margaret and I walked to the railway station to catch the train to Perth and then on to Fremantle,

Edgar was taking the car and would meet us at our lunch place.

It seems to be a good train service and many of the stations have been upgraded. Most have connections to buses so it makes for a good travel network. Once in Fremantle we walked through the town to Cicerellos, a fish and chip restaurant.

The town looks rather run down although they are making the effort to freshen them up to attract people back to the area.

We duly met up with Edgar at Cicerellos for lunch although it took us a while to find a table that was clean, plenty of seagulls were in attendance, lol!!

After lunch we headed to the port and were lucky enough to see a large ship leaving, it was possibly a car carrier. The port is also a container port as well as a cruise liner terminal.

There are a couple of museums in the area including one at the port where Australia II, of America's Cup fame, is housed. There was also a Tall Ship being readied for action.

We then followed the coast for quite a way back towards Perth. Again, there are so many new houses and apartments that have been built recently all along the coastal area.

Nearer Perth, especially in the suburb of Peppermint Grove, we saw some houses that are more like mansions than anything else, there are so many expensive homes in this area.

One in particular which was started but has been left, unfinished. The Indian family lost their money apparently and the house has been left like this for about six years, quite a few houses were torn down to make way for it!

We went to Point Walter for more views of Perth and it was very windy, so much so that the swans were having difficulty making headway! I also saw a Shag standing on a small rock and it looked as if it might have been struggling a wee bit.

We saw millions of dollars of hardware on the water, as well as on land!!

Finally, we followed the road around until we arrived back home, Charlie was very pleased to see us!!

After tea we went out to watch the family team play in the Social Netball League - lots of fun but they lost 21 - 16. Still, that was better than last week when they were hammered!!
