Wednesday September 10 (Rochester)

A quiet day today, I was up fairly late even though Sizzle and Ganache tried to get me into gear early!! I went for a walk later, there are lots of walk and cycle ways round the town, just like back in Napier. The weather is a lot cooler with quite a wind chill, 54 degrees, cooler than Napier which is in early spring!

I had such a surprise when I came upstairs and Willow, the very shy cat, was sitting on the floor and did not move even though I had to pass close to her.

Later in the evening, Joe took me round to the place where he works. It was very interesting, such a large area for a small workforce. They make precision instruments, machines and machines that make machines.

The degree of accuracy is incredible, much of the work is done to an accuracy of one, 20 millionth of an inch. Some of the lathes were manual while others were computer controlled. It is very specialised work and the company is certainly in demand. On the way there, Joe pointed out a large IBM facility where they carry out R and D.

I was fairly tired so was not too late to bed.
