Wednesday January 22 - touring some of the peninsular

After a lazy start to the day, Jim and Cheryl took me on a tour that went from Port Orchard, through Manchester (it used to be called Sidney) and onto Silverdale.

I had my first view of Seattle, albeit a very hazy one!! We also spent time across from the Puget Sound Naval Shipyard. There is an Amphibian Battleship in for repairs as well as an Aircraft carrier up out of the water for refurbishing. A mothball fleet is also present there.

Jim also shared the story of the Sidney Hotel that a few years ago got washed down from its position at the top of a hill down a gully during heavy rain. The hotel ended up at the bottom of the gully still in one piece! It has been relocated, refurbished and now consists of offices!

The Murals and Totem pole are situated in downtown Port Orchard.

We then went looking for Eagles but they were not obliging us unfortunately!

Then we carried on to Silverdale where we ended up at King's Wok Buffet where we had a late lunch/early dinner at a Chinese buffet with so many different dishes, both savoury and dessert, as well as Sushi. We sat and chatted for several hours before heading back home again.

Everywhere, we went there was evidence that something special is happening in this area and I can only imagine what Seattle will be like in a couple of weeks time. Even the local buses are in on the act and there are many 12th Man flags around the place!

A very interesting and educational day with tour guide Jim sharing lots of local knowledge and historical data.

cannot finish today's blog without reference to the sad news that we found out after we had arrived home, the passing of Intrepid. I really loved that guy and was there when he came in and I remember the work Bill put into him. Intrepid spent a lot of time in Thumpers Room with Merlyn and Camvi.

When I was at FFRC in October, I was lucky enough to spend time with Intrepid, along with Whobe, in KK for a few days. RIP Intrepid and commiserations to his adopter as well as those at FFRC.
